Permanent Record Podcast

Brian and Sarah are your hosts for this look back at albums from the New Wave and Classic Rock genres-- albums which have earned a permanent spot in their record collection. The hosts start the discussion with a history of the album, followed by their personal history with it. Over the course of two episodes, they do a track-by-track review of the album and the videos that accompany the singles. They conclude by each giving the album a final review and rating of zero to five record adapters. Join Brian and Sarah in this fun look back at the hits-- along with some misses-- of the 70s and 80s!

Episode 117: Oingo Boingo - Dead Man's Party (1985) - Part 2

After a brief interruption to record an "emergency episode," Brian and Sarah return to their examination of the 1985 Oingo Boingo album Dead Man's Party. This classic release just celebrated its 35th anniversary, and our hosts are ready to continue the festivities by flipping the record over to Side Two and talking about the five tracks found there.

Side Two features two singles, one of which has the distinction of attaining the highest position on the Billboard chart in the band's history. The other single took on a life of its own a few years later, in the country of Brazil!

Track-by-Track, continued

As the hosts talk about the songs on Side Two, they reveal even more songs on this album that have made their way into American movies and television shows. They also mention some movies that don't have any obvious connections to Oingo Boingo, such as the 1989 film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and the 1944 film Going My Way, starring Bing Crosby! Brian and Sarah also discuss one video they both love, and one video which one of them likes better than the other, and which Danny Elfman hates!

Side Two:
Stay
Fool's Paradise
Help Me
Same Man I Was Before
Weird Science

Extra Credit:

For extra credit, each host has selected an additional Boingo-related song to briefly discuss. Sarah's choice is a brand-new release, and Brian's choice is from the same recording sessions as Dead Man's Party.

Final Review and Rating

With the extra credit section complete, all that's left is for Brian and Sarah to present their final evaluations and ratings for the album. Given the imagery on the album cover, perhaps they should have changed their rating symbol for this album to grinning skulls instead of record adpaters!
